Maite D. Oronoz Rodríguez

El gobernador Alejandro García Padilla designó a la licenciada Maite Oronoz Rodríguez como jueza asociada del Tribunal Supremo de Puerto Rico. De esta manera, el primer ejecutivo llena la vacante dejada por la jueza Liana Fiol Matta, confirmada como presidenta del máximo foro judicial, y quien está próxima a juramentar al nuevo cargo.

Oronoz Rodríguez tiene una maestría en Derecho de la Universidad de Columbia en Nueva York y un Juris Doctor de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, de donde se graduó Magna Cum Laude. Fue miembro de la Revista Jurídica y reconocida por su desempeño sobresaliente, tanto a nivel académico como en servicio comunitario. Además, realizó un bachillerato en Historia de la Universidad de Villanova en Pensilvania y tomó cursos de historia, literatura e italiano en la Universidad de Florencia en Italia.

Según Noticel:

La licenciada es hija de Dolores «Maggie» Rodríguez de Oronoz, exjueza del Tribunal de Apelaciones, quien fungió como directora ejecutiva del comité de transición de García Padilla y quien fue directora de comunicaciones bajo el gobierno del exgobernador Rafael Hernández Colón. Rodríguez de Oronoz es parte del Comité de Nombramientos Judiciales y el hermano de la licenciada es asesor económico del gobernador.

En el 2001, se incorporó a la práctica del Derecho trabajando para el bufete McConnell Valdés en las áreas de discriminación en el empleo, contratos y asuntos constitucionales. Fue asistente jurídico del exjuez presidente del Tribunal Supremo, Federico Hernández Denton, y luego fue designada como subprocuradora general de Justicia desde el 2005 al 2008.

En el 2009, comienza a trabajar en el bufete Sepulvado y Maldonado LLC, especializándose en casos de litigio comercial y civil, tanto en las cortes de Puerto Rico como en la corte federal. En el 2013, es designada como directora de la División Legal del Municipio de San Juan por la alcaldesa Carmen Yulín Cruz.

“La licenciada Oronoz Rodríguez es ejemplo de lo que esta nueva generación puede ofrecerle a Puerto Rico. Una joven brillante que contribuirá desde el Tribunal Supremo a definir la reglas que regirán a esta sociedad en este nuevo siglo”, afirmó el mandatario.

La designación de Oronoz Rodríguez pasa ahora al Senado para continuar con el proceso de confirmación.

Oronoz Rodríguez sería la primera persona LGBTT en ser jueza del Tribunal Supremo de Puerto Rico.

Supervise a team of over 20 employees, including attorneys, legal assistants and support staff, as well as outside legal counsel, who comprise and give support to the following divisions: Management and Administration, General Counsel, Litigation, Legislation, Contracts, Property, Legal Aid and Administrative Hearings regarding municipal codes and ordinances.

Responsible for advising the Mayor and the Directors of over 25 Municipal Dependencies on various legal matters affecting the City and its over 6,000 employees regarding compliance with state, federal and municipal laws and regulations in all municipal dealings. Further responsibilities include: representing the Municipality and its officials before several forums, including state and federal courts as well as multiple government agencies. Oversee the management and strategy of over 2,500 cases on a wide variety of substantive matters including, but not limited to: civil rights, contracts, health, torts, construction, taxes, bankruptcy and employment law.

Supervise various attorneys who draft and/or review over 2,000 contracts and collaborative agreements a year, dozens of bills, ordinances and executive orders. Represent the Municipal Administration on multiple issues before the Municipal Assembly. Custodian of the municipal property registry and in charge of supervising the counseling and representation of the indigent population of San Juan on certain legal issues that are not in conflict with the Municipality.
